Coach Beth Davidson achieved a double silver medal at the Veteran World Championships in Zadar in Croatia!
The first medal was the individual competition with 36 competitors including World no.1 Dorothia Tanzmeister. After the preliminary round, Beth was seeded top going directly into the last 32 of the elimination stages of the women’s sabre. She went on to beat Rousselot (FRA) 10-2, Giordano (ITA) 10-5, Leveque (FRA) 10-4, Kollemetz (GER) 10-8. The final became a battle with Julie Seal from the USA. A familiar face from the first senior World Cup and recently entered the veteran’s age group. Beth was only able to make 3 hits to her 10 and achieving her second individual silver.
The second day of competition was the team event with Great Britian fencing off for seeding, losing to Australia then beating Italy in the first round. This made a challenging task in the elimination round! The quarter finals saw GB easily beating Germany 30-12 which meant facing highest ranking USA in the semi, but with huge team effort GB progressed into the final winning 30-23 to meet Italy again. GB couldn’t continue the winning streak and had to settle for silver, losing by 2 hits to champions, Italy!
